Coalition Vows Firm Response to Attack on King Khalid International Airport; Civil Aviation Authority Reports 12 Dead and 309 Injured

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation announced that 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen described the attack as a “terrorist act” and a “war crime,” and vowed to respond firmly.

In a supplementary statement issued Sunday, the authority said the dead included four Saudi citizens and eight residents: two Bangladeshi nationals, and one each of American, Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian, Palestinian, and Sudanese nationality.

It added that the injured were receiving medical care at several hospitals, including some in critical condition, and that the attack caused material damage that was still being assessed.

On Saturday, the authority had announced that King Khalid International Airport had come under attack. It said several people were injured and that airport operations had been temporarily suspended to assess the damage and verify the safety of the facilities in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The Coalition’s official spokesperson, Major General , said the Houthi militia’s attack on one of the airport’s passenger lounges, which resulted in deaths and injuries among passengers and airport staff, “constitutes a fully-fledged war crime” under international humanitarian law and customary rules.

Al-Maliki added that the Coalition Joint Forces Command would respond to the attack “firmly and in accordance with international humanitarian law and customary rules.”
